‘Great Exuma’ - undiscovered paradise

‘Warning, you won't want to go home...’

Most of the 700 islands that make up the Bahamas are uninhabited.
Save for Nassau, the capital, on New Providence Island, Great Bahama and Abaco, the remainder of the islands are known as the Out Islands.

The Exumas begin less than 35 miles southeast of Nassau and stretch south for about 90 miles.
There are two main islands - Great Exuma and Little Exuma which are connected by a bridge.

The capital of the Exumas is George Town, situated on Great Exuma. Despite being the capital and the centre of tourist activity it still retains its no-need-for-a-traffic-light size.

During April one of the Bahamas' most prestigious and popular sailing events, the Out Islands Regatta, takes place at the lovely Elizabeth Harbour.

Great Exuma - the island on which our villa 'Westside' is situated, was voted one of "the top 10 hot international destinations for 2004" by the Washington Post.
With the friendliest people in the world, the locals are very proud of the fact that they have little or no crime.

Next to tourism, fishing is the main industry on the island, with all restaurants serving a wonderful selection of locally caught fresh fish from Grouper to Lobster - a local delicacy which is half the price of anywhere else in the world.
